Siemens Electrical Apparatus Ltd., Suzhou (SEAL)
Siemens Electrical Apparatus Ltd., Suzhou (SEAL) focuses on the manufacturing of contactors, overload relays, contactor relays, and breakers as well as the research and development of low-voltage products, with about 1100 employees to date.
SEAL was set up in 1994 as a joint venture between Siemens AG and the then Suzhou Machine Tool Electrical Appliances Plant. As Siemens Ltd (China) acquired all the remaining stakes from the Chinese partner in July, 2001, it has become a foreign-invested company fully owned by Siemens.
Later SEAL in May, 2003 was approved by the Chinese Government to acquire Siemens Electrical Apparatus Co Ltd, Beijing, with its registered capital increased from 46.24 million DM to 58.04 million DM. In April 2006, SEAL's register capital was increased to EUR 40.20 million.
Quality is essential to the success, and SEAL has been implementing ISO9002 quality management system since early days to constantly improve the overall quality control. SEAL obtained the TUV certificate of ISO9002 in November 1998, and its product series have gradually acquired the CE and CCC certificate since then. Also SEAL were certified by ISO 14000 Environmental Management System in November 2003. SEAL is located at Suzhou National New- and High-tech Development Zone, which SEAL moved into in April, 2002, with a new plant covering a total area of 87,000 square meter upon completion. So far Phase I and Phase II of the plant are already in operation, with total construction floor of over 28,000sqm.
SEAL established in June, 2003 an R&D division dedicated to development of low-voltage electrical apparatus and components, with about 60 engineers today. At the end of March 2007, after nearly one year's planning and preparation, SEAL started to build its new R&D Centre, with the total investment of approximately RMB 120 million for buildings, laboratory equipment, as well as software licensing and training, and a total area of 10,800sqm. The new R&D Centre will be put into use in January 2008. Over the next three years, the local R&D workforce is expected to have around 150 engineers, who will mainly focusing on optimizing the structure and performance of the existing products while continue developing next-generation products in low-voltage apparatus targeting both the China and overseas markets.
With the investment of the new R&D Centre, SEAL will bring further innovative technologies, know-how, and top-class service competence to China.
