Siemens PLM Software (formally know as UGS) started business operations in China via agent in 1987. Its first China office was established in 1990 in Beijing. China R&D center was established in Shanghai in January 2004. There are around 360 employees and nearly 100 R&D staff in Greater China with subsidiaries and branch offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Hong Kong and Taipei.

In 2007，UGS was acquired by Siemens and to be operated as a division of the Siemens Automation and Drives Group (A&D). In combining UGS' software portfolio with A&D's portfolio of engineering and automation systems, Siemens will become the first supplier for manufacturing and process industries to provide an end-to-end software and hardware portfolio encompassing the complete lifecycle of products.
