Siemens and East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) today signed a strategic agreement on overall co-operation in industrial automation education. Siemens will offer scholarship and donate some of its most advanced automation equipment to the Information School of ECUST to help the university jointly set up an advanced automation technology lab, in which the two parties will invest a total of 2 million RMB. Siemens' donation of training equipment estimated at 700,000 RMB has contributed to the talent training of China's automation industry, again honoring its commitment to the country as a responsible corporate citizen.
ECUST-Siemens advanced automation technology joint lab will introduce modern professional training concepts and training models from Germany into its talent training and faculty training. The lab is equipped with modern training facilities including 6 process automation controlling systems, 6 factory-oriented automation training systems and 4 component-based automation systems. Representing the latest automation technology platform, they will be used in the research and teaching of process industry, manufacturing automation and large-scale, complicated automation system and framework. The two parties will also promote the development of automation discipline through efforts in textbook writing and teaching reforms. Moreover, Siemens will provide more internship and job opportunities to graduates from ECUST, as well as scholarship to excellent students. Siemens has not only donated advanced SIMATIC automation equipment, but also has taken the responsibility of training outstanding faculty. Siemens Automation and Drives will further co-operate with the lab to promote practice-oriented vocational training in process industry.
"We are very honored today to sign the strategic agreement with ECUST, so that we are able to help China accelerate building its automation discipline and enhance automation talent education," said Mr. Peter Herweck, executive vice-president and member of management board of Siemens Ltd., China. "ECUST is a leading university in China's science and technology colleges and institutions. As a top-notch supplier in China's automation industry, our co-operation with such a leading institution as ECUST Information School is very important. Their research and education is well matched with the products and technology of Siemens' Automation and Drives Group, and our donation has further demonstrated Siemens' solid commitment to China as an excellent, responsible corporate citizen."
As one of the largest foreign investors in China, Siemens has been dedicated to its corporate citizenship in the country market, and investment and support in education remains a major focus. Siemens Automation & Drives Group in September 2005 donated automation systems valued at more than 10 million RMB for establishing "Automation System Engineer Accreditation (ASEA) Competence Centers" in 10 top universities in China. The ASEA program is designed to provide practical experience to automation engineering students in China's leading universities.
Siemens' contribution as a responsible corporate citizen is widely recognized. The company won the "Guangming Corporate Citizenship Award" in both 2004 and 2005, and it was rewarded the "2005 China Best Corporate Citizenship Conduct Award" presented by the 21st Century Business Herald beginning that year.
