The Siemens Automation Summit 2008, held by the Automation and Drives Group of Siemens Ltd., China, kicked off on 9th July at Boao, Hainan Province. Mr. Long Yongtu, Secretary General of Boao Forum for Asia, Academician Dai Ruwei, President of Chinese Association of Automation, Mr. Li Junfeng, Deputy Director General of Energy Research Institute and Secretary General of China Renewable Energy Industries Association, and Siemens senior management delivered speeches at the General Session. Over five hundred participants, including industry experts, end-users, partners and media reporters attended the Summit. On the summit, participants will jointly explore the development trends in automation and drives, and seek approaches to propel the sustainable development of various branches by adopting world-leading automation and drives applications.

China's rapid economic development in the past two decades has brought business opportunities to almost all related technologies including automation. The country's industry sector is expected to grow 15% this year. As a result, urbanization and industrialization, manufacturing and its related industries are facing new challenges, and the Summit is aimed to provide a platform for thorough communication among participants. Particularly, industry professionals to the event include over 200 end-users from about thirty branches such as iron & steel, power, chemical, automotive etc, 120 OEMs, and 150 system integrators and design institutes.

It is worth to point out that there are 28 breakout-sessions running during the three-day event. The SD & LD breakout session with the topic of "Siemens Total Energy Saving Solutions" became the most popular session in the summit. Mr. Zhang Jiantao as the topic speaker detailed addressed how to use energy more efficiently in the industries by introducing 4 main solutions: improve the production process (optimizing the process of production-TIA), utilizing the effective energy management solutions-TIP, using high efficiency motors and last but not least by using variable speed drive system.
