SIMODRIVE POSMO-Intelligent motion control with decentralized solutions

The SIMODRIVE® POSMO series opens up a whole new range of possibilities in the area of machine conception. With SIMODRIVE POSMO®, the entire drive system is moved to a decentralized location in or on the machine.

You can also design your drive layout as a mixed arrangement of central and decentralized units. This is made possible by the different versions of this system: SIMODRIVE POSMO A and SIMODRIVE POSMO SI with servo-converter and servomotor as a compact unit that can be integrated totally within the machine. Other versions are SIMODRIVE POSMO CD and CA in the form of a converter which is separate from the motor.

Greater flexibility

The decentralized structures of this drive technology allow you much greater freedom in designing your machine layout. You can make individual additions at any time simply by placing extra axes wherever they are needed. The capacities of control cabinets or cooling equipment are no longer a limiting factor.

More standardization

SIMODRIVE POSMO units help you to create whole machines or parts of installations in the form of modules which are, to a large extent, autonomous. On-site commissioning times are shortened considerably, given that, in many cases, these modules can be commissioned in advance. In spite of extensive standardization, SIMODRIVE POSMO also enables you to create very individual, customized solutions by combining the various modules - a procedure which requires only very little effort.

Increased savings potential

SIMODRIVE POSMO units communicate via PROFIBUS DP, thus making it irrelevant whether you are operating one or more drives. In large installations, the linear power-bus and communication-bus structure enables a reduction in the amount of cable that is needed. Moreover, the simple connector system ensured savings are made with regard to installation and servicing.

A wider range of applications

SIMODRIVE POSMO is excellently suited for use in production machines in the packaging wood, glass, printing and plastic industries and also performs outstandingly when used for machine tools. Typical applications are feed axes and auxiliary axes on machine tools as well as servoaxes or independent positioning axes.

SIMODRIVE POSMO A

Design

SIMODRIVE POSMO A is an intelligent motor with integrated converter, positioning control, optional gearing and a PROFIBUS DP interface connection.

Applications

Typical applications are the adjustment of formats, end stops and valves - in other words anything which can be moved into position at the press of a button, as it were. SIMODRIVE POSMO A thus opens up new potential for rationalization thanks to short set-up times and automatic setting of process variables.

Range of functions

SIMODRIVE POSMO A is available as a 75 W unit (connected to 24 V DC) and as a 300 W unit (connected to 48 V DC). In the SIMODRIVE POSMO A 300 W, a holding brake can be integrated as an option. With this brake and the remanent actual-value memory (accrual value stored in the FEPROM), the SIMODRIVE POSMO A behaves similarly to an absolute position encoder. This means that, once it has obtained a reference, it maintains its position and continues to be referenced even after being switched on again.

Diverse reduction ratios can be selected from a gear building block, consisting of planetary gearing and worm gearing. But even without gearing, the SIMODRIVE POSMO A can cope with simple handling tasks.

In the SIMODRIVE POSMO A, up to 27 traversing blocks can be programmed with the help of SimoCom A, a convenient and easy-to-use startup tool. Once programmed, the traversing Programs can be started via any PLC with PROFIBUS capability and can, of course, be edited as well.

SIMODRIVE POSMO SI

Design

SIMODRIVE POSMO SI is a servodrive for a decentralized servodrive system and serves as a direct node on the PROFIBUS DP. SIMODRIVE POSMO SI is a fully functional mechatronic unit, enabling control and drive tasks to be performed directly on site with the autonomous modular function units.

Power is supplied to the unit from the DC voltage supply via a power bus. The advantage of this is the energy balance in the DC link. Power can also be returned to the supply by means of infeed/regenerative feedback modules.

  • Speed or torque control or positioning.
  • Standard PROFIBUS DP slave with high-speed cyclical data interchange with the master.
  • Interpolating motion sequences with other drives with synchronous Bus Motion Control with PROFIBUS DP.

SIMODRIVE POSMO CD/CA

Design

SIMODRIVE POSMO CD/CA units are complete converters with closed-loop control for a decentralized servodrive system. This servosystem can be installed close to the motor thanks to its high degree of protection(IP 65).

It is connected to the voltage supply via the power bus. In the case of SIMODRIVE POSMO CA, the power bus is directly connected to the three-phase supply. In the case of SIMODRIVE POSMO CD, the power bus is fed by a DC voltage system from a power-supply module. The advantage of this is the energy balance in the DC link. Power can also be returned to the power supply with infeed/regenerative feedback modules.

Range of functions

  • Speed or torque control or positioning.
  • Standard PROFIBUS DP slave with fast cyclical data interchange with the master.
  • Interpolating motion sequences with other drives with synchronous Bus Motion Control with PROFIBUS DP.

With this powerful tool, in which the SimoCom U / SimoCom A startup tools are embedded, you can carry out all the necessary commissioning steps such as hardware configuration, parameterizaion, configuration of the technology and control functions and also configuration of communication.
