Oct. 10^th, 2003 was a day focusing the attention from the industrial circle of Harbin and the automation construction of China. As a blue train slowly drove into Harbin Railway Station, the Automation & Drives Group of Siemens (China) Ltd., with its special train "Exider" containing the latest technical experiences, began its 16-station touring demonstration in China for its global trip. The messenger for Siemens' innovative technology has at last arrived at Harbin under expectations from numerous guests of the industrial circle of China, and is starting an unprecedented communication and exchange with thousands of people from the Chinese industrial circle.

On its one-day stay it has demonstrated the first visitors from Harbin the worlds leading industrial automation products and solutions which are exhibited in the cars. In the morning of Oct., 10^th, a grand opening ceremony was held at Harbin Railway Station. The vice-mayor of Harbin, Guozhang Cong, visited the site personally and showed full interest in the whole train. He was very much impressed by the peak industrial technologies from Siemens demonstrated, and expressed his best wishes for the exhibition. He also emphasized the importance of promoting the development of the old industry base in the northeast of China by making use of international advanced technology. Mr. Smith, vice-president of Siemens Ltd. China and CEO of the Automation & Drives Group, emphasized during the ceremony, that Siemens A & D will continue to support the industrial construction in Heilongjiang Province with its worldwide leading technologies in infrastruction and industrial automation. He also hopes for enhancing the cooperation between several industrial enterprises in Heilongjiang and the surrounding areas, which he would like to be based on high technology and the use of the radiation of the industrial city of Harbin.

At the same time, the touring demonstration activity of "Exider" is highly supported by the Ministry of Railway and departments of railway. The leaders of the Sub-bureau of Harbin Railway, the Sub-bureau of Qingdao Railway and Harbin Railway Station also attended the opening ceremony.

For a long time, with its most advanced automation systems and services, Siemens Automation & Drives Group has closely cooperated with local industrial enterprises in Heilongjiang, and has contributed its force for the construction of the industrial base of Harbin.

Amongst the visitors, who attended the opening ceremony at the first station of the "Exider" for touring demonstration in China at Harbin, were also representatives from the enterprises which are playing a key role in the basic industrial construction of Heilongjiang. The blue magic train, which arrived at Harbin Station, is the lead for the touring demonstration - Siemens "Exider". Starting in March 2002 from Prague in the Czech Republic, with one-and-half-year of attractive travel across Europe, the messenger full of automation technology has conquered every visitor with his scientific design and high technology contents. The touring demonstration of "Exider" in China will start on Oct. 10^th from Harbin, in sequence to Changchun, Shenyang, Beijing, Tianjin, Jinan, Nanjing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, Xi'an, Chengdou, Chongqing, Guiyang, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, i. e. 16 cities. The journey will end at Shenzhen in the early of December 2003.

The Siemens "Exider" has a length up to 300m and consists of 14 cars, which all demonstrate the most progressive application cases and technology in the field of industrial automation worldwide. The contents cover more than 40,000 products, systems and solutions from Siemens Automation & Drives Group and demonstrate in an all-sided way the application tendency for the future in industrial and basic construction, including Process Automation, Totally Integrated Automation, automation in machining, in machine manufacturing, energy management and E-manufacturing system, etc.

There are several visual vibrations, extensive and detailed introductions, dynamic multimedia video demonstrations and no-distance contacts, which can be attended on the train. All exhibits show the high efficiency of automation in solving actual problems in the industrial systems. With an introduction from the technicians of Siemens Automation, the visitors are able to understand the products, systems, solutions and professional technologies in such fields like steel, machinery, metallurgy, food, beverage, packaging, automobile and petrochemical, etc. more deeply.
